The Rising Wedge is a bearish pattern that begins wide at the bottom and contracts as prices move higher and the trading range narrows. In contrast to symmetrical triangles, which have no definitive slope and no bullish or bearish bias, rising wedges definitely slope up and have a bearish bias. There are 6 Broadening Wedge patterns that we can separately identify on our charts and each provide a good risk and reward potential trade setup when carefully selected and used alongside other components to a successful trading strategy. Contrary to the Falling Wedge, where the price action contracts as the pattern matures, the Descending Broadening Wedge widens as the two trend lines that have formed diverge from one another. Unlike the rising wedge, the falling wedge is a bullish chart pattern. In this example, the falling wedge serves as a reversal signal. After a downtrend, the price made lower highs and lower lows. Notice how the falling trend line connecting the highs is steeper than the trend line connecting the lows.
