The ‘Imperial’ was the company’s first oil tanker, and transported crude oil from Ohio to Imperial’s refinery in Sarnia, Ontario. This month we feature one of the major Canadian specialty vessel operations, the fleet of Imperial Oil Ltd. of Toronto. Imperial is, of course, a member of the world-wide "ESSO" organization, and a subsidiary of the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey.

In 1997 Imperial Oil, like its parent company Exxon Mobil and most oil majors, divested its tanker fleet. Algoma Central Marine formed Algoma Tankers Ltd and acquired all of Imperial's coastal tanker fleet. Imperial Acadia often tied up on the Halifax side of the harbour for maintenance and hot work.

The Imperial tanker was used throughout the Galactic Civil War. During the Civil War, the Empire used tankers to refuel Star Destroyers in space, and to transport fuel to outposts and garrisons. They were also encountered by Rogue Squadron at the beginning of an attack against an Imperial installation near the Maw.
