The Future of Canada’s Oil Sands The ever-changing oil price environment and the long-term nature of Canada’s oil sands projects will continue to create opportunities for all oil companies. Oil and Gas have been the motors of movement, appliances, and the determinants of many world countries’ economies and wellbeing. The question is: What’s the future of all that? In front of global warming, contamination, species extinction and the concept of renewable sources everything points out to the need of decreasing oil and gas dependence. Oil has no future. It is only a matter of time, although how much time remains is subject to considerable discussion and debate. Various prognosticators put forth differing view about when world oil demand will peak. Some say as early as 2030, others much later. On the non- oil sands side, this is the shale gas and the light, tight oil developments that we have going on here in Western Canada, they also are very low carbon. With our shale gas, we have these methane reduction rules that I think will make our natural gas some of the lowest carbon in the world.
