Motor oil is rated many ways. One is the API rating for gasoline motors. SJ is better than SH, SH is better than SG, SG is better than SF. etc. So as long as the letter comes later in the alphabet it is ok. However the most modern oils ( e.g. SM) are not suitable for old engines.

Engine oil which has been tested and meets the API Motorcycle oils commonly still use the SF/SG standard

However, SF rated oil is now obsolete. I have searched the net to try and determine what the SF rated oils had in the way of ZDDP (Zinc/Phosphorus) and found nothing.Does anyone have info on what the actual SF specs were, Motor oil is rated many ways. API SJ oils can be used in any applications where SH oils were being appropriately used. So if your owner’s manual calls for an API SE, SF, SG or SH motor oil - API SJ will work just fine.
